You can tell this is the first of a series, there’s a lot of background information and a lot of extra storyline outside the crime solving. It was interesting and unique and I look forward to seeing what comes next.

This was a good story that was worth reading but it was a little slow. Also because it was set in India I had to look up several things to get a good picture in my head. Love several characters in the book especially the main character and the elephant

I was really exited about this book and it's extra long title. And it started great! But in the middle it bogged way down and I almost gave up. But I am glad I kept going because the ending was good too. The second book will go on my to read list, but it will be at the bottom.

I absolutely love “The Unexpected Inheritance of Inspector Chopra” by Vaseem Khan, and am now officially hooked on this mystery series! Just when retiring Inspector Chopra thinks he is done with his crime-solving life, he is drawn into a new case and butts heads with the higher-ups who want him to stay nice and quiet and retired. Tossed in the mix is a pitiful baby elephant he inherits. For fans of cozy mysteries that have helpful crime-solving pets, this baby elephant is a delightful twist! I enjoyed the humor of Inspector Chopra trying to figure out how to take care of his new charge. Inspector Chopra’s house-proud wife Poppy is a hoot too. The book also took me on an armchair journey to the busy metropolis of Mumbai in India. The descriptions of the various parts of the city add fascinating texture to this story. I loved the audiobook narration by Sartaj Garewal! He adds a wonderful mix of humor and drama to the story and characters’ voices. I am glad a narrator from India was chosen for this book. I enjoyed his accent and found he enhanced the book’s listening experience. This book transported me to a completely different place for a front-row seat at a delightful mystery series.

I mean, it’s not a great book, but we love a baby elephant. The premise is cute and it’s not a bad blend of cozy and procedural.

(Note: if I remember correctly, the sequels are better—at the very least more fun. Less clunky. The main couple is less dysfunctional. The elephant is no longer depressed. )

Baby Ganesh is so adorable. I absolutely love the characters & the setting of this series.

It’s a cozy mystery that doesn’t rely on tropes or cheesy moments. It seems way more believable because it’s not another amateur detective.
