Book Review: Awaken (Divine Hunter Series Book 1)

Michael Warden is an investigator, but, not your ordinary type. Some might call him and Demon Hunter, or a Ghost Buster but it is way more than that.
Michael not was able to just become him. He took over his entire existance, which made being back on Earth much easier for Michael to be able to do what he needed to do.
Heading to the SPU campus where there have been students jumping to their deaths from dorm windows, Michael has to find out what is causing these people to do this. Some are saying it is a suicide pact yet upon doing research Michael learns that none of the jumpers have anything in common with any of the others. Or do they....
Lacy Holloway is an assistant professor in the Department of Psychology at SPU and she and Michael have become friends. Having both been loners before they met. They have become friendly and who knows where it may lead. Yet how does Michael handle things knowing that he isn't alive?
Will they find out what is causing the students to kill themselves? How close will Michael and Lacy get?
Full of suspense and the unknown. What or who is lurking behind the next corner? Can the next vicitim avoid eye contact and save themself? Great paranormal book. Easy, very engaging read. Hard to put down. Hope there are several more.

Awaken by L.J. Sealey is a paranormal romance story. This story is about two people who have pasts that haunt them. This story is mystery, suspense and romance. This story will show you what happens when your past starts colliding with the present. The author has created characters that will pull you into a world between Earth and Hell. They will take you on a roller coaster ride of twists, turns and sitting on the edge of your seat action.
Michael Warden is a man who had everything he wanted in his life. Then one day he losses it all including his life. Now he is stuck in a different body and has lost some memory. He doesn't remember where he went but he does remember it was full of pain. Now he is back on Earth and not sure why he is here. Hoping to find some answers he starts hunting monsters that are hurting humans. What will happen when his hunting brings him to Maryland? What will happen when he meets her? He keeps telling himself that he can't fall for her, but will fate take over? He doesn't want to hurt her, but is it out of his control?
Lacy Holloway has finally been content with her life. She works at a university and has finally let herself move on from her past. What will happen when a new hot, sexy colleague comes starts working at the university? She finds it easy to talk to him and she finds herself opening up to him without even realizing it. What happens when a string of suicides are happening at the university? The last one really through her for a loop. What will she do when she finds out that he is part of what is causing her nightmares?
Michael and Lacy's relationship is one that is a little complicated because he is not human and she is. What will happen when they realize they are starting to have feelings for each other? When they are forced to deal with demons, the emotional and paranormal kinds, will they hold strong? When they start discovering things, how will it effect them? Will he learn more about why he is on Earth? What will she do when she finds out? Will she finally have to deal with her past? Will things change for them?
This is my first story by L.J. Sealey and I can't wait for the next story in this series. L.J was born and raised in a small little Welsh town by the sea. She currently lives in N. Wales with her husband. It rains a lot so it gives her an excuse to sit at her writing desk to create. When she is not creating she is travels with her musician husband and sometimes you will find her singing backups for him. Will also find her reading and enjoying her favorite television shows. This story she created is a fast page turner that will hold your attention until the end. You will not want to put it down until you are finished. You will love how these characters interact with each other. I highly suggest this story as I know you will enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed reading it.

Awaken is the first book in the Divine Hunter Series and debut novel, by L.J Sealey. It is a paranormal romance- with action, suspense, fantasy, mystery, supernatural elements and drama.
Michael Warden was a successful entrepreneur; living a comfortable, normal life- until that was snatched from him. Finding himself in hell for some unknown reason- he eventually manages to escape. He is determined to find out what happened to him, and so starts off on his quest to discover the truth.
He hears of a University that has had an explosion in the number of unexplained suicides and manages to secure a position there, as a teacher- so he can investigate the matter more fully. It’s there that he befriends a colleague, he is drawn to her, and theirs is an immediately comfortable and easy friendship.
Lacy Holloway has always been a bit of a loner- and felt haunted by her past for a long time, until recently when she finally started to move on and feel more settled in her life. Working at the University has certainly helped with that. When Michael enters her life, she is instantly attracted to the handsome teacher.
When circumstances get a little out of hand, Lacy finds herself drawn into a nightmarish world; it triggers all her tortured memories from the past to bubble to the surface. She has to deal with that, and discovers that Michael is part of this unbelievably hellish situation.
Will Michael be able to keep her safe, while battling the supernatural forces- as well as his intensifying feelings for Lacy? Can he finally admit the depth of his feelings for her? Will they be able to solve the mystery before one of them pays the ultimate price? Can Lacy face her own demons and finally put the past behind her? What will the future hold for these two? What happens if Michael is unable to remain in this world?
This is pretty action packed, with quite a lot of suspense. The concept is quite unique and interesting. I think this series is off to a great start, if the storyline in this book is anything to go by.
The book had some incredibly funny moments and some heart pounding points as well. The author did a great job of infusing quite a lot of emotion, tension and chemistry into the story.
I found that it was a little slow to get going in the beginning and the characters seemed to have a tendency to go off on a tangent with their thought processes, sometimes for pages at a time- this was a little distracting and frustrating, and for me, it detracted from the overall story.
The book ends on somewhat of a cliff-hanger- as in…. ‘to be continued’. So it will be interesting to see what happens in the next book.

He knows he is dead but how or why he doesn’t know. He also knows he spent time in Hell and doesn’t know how or why he is back from there. He knows he now inhabits the body of a man called Michael. He knows he was a successful businessman before he died but now he hunts monsters.
Michael takes note of the suicides of students at a University in Oakland and knows there is more to the story. He knows he needs to go to the Uni to investigate and sets about making sure he gets a job there as a psychology professor. There he meets Lacy an assistant professor in the psychology department who he forms a friendship with. Michael mentions to Lacy that he has noticed that one of the students seems to be acting strange. Lacy notices the same thing and lets Michael know what she has seen.
Michael learns that a demon is involved and he calls in his friend Evo for help. Together as they investigate they realise they are all in danger and are in a battle for their lives. Evo calls in a favour and they meet Alethia who agrees to help them. After ending up back in Hell, Michael is saved but Evo ends up stuck there. When Michael trades his own life for the one he loves he is once again pulled from entering Hell and finds out who and what he truly is.
Can Michael fight the demons and find his way back to the one he loves? Will Evo be saved from a life in Hell?
I enjoyed this book. It is action packed full of all sorts of paranormal beings. I want to read the next book to see where this story goes.

This début novel does not disappoint!!! I was hooked and had to read it in one sitting!

He has a web of contacts who can give him access to information, giving him an edge on the other hunters.
When he hears of a strong of unconnected suicides at a University he knows that there is something compelling these students to kill themselves. He meets Lacy who harbours her own dark secrets and they are soon peeling back the layers on the mystery surrounding these deaths.
A sign of how good this book is? I was in turns in tears, laughing my ?&* off and screaming in frustration!!! Not your average paranormal romance and I loved that we found out about Michaels story right along with him!!! Fabulously original premise and engaging characters. Evo is a wonderful character and I can't wait for his book!!!!
