I don’t understand why people continue to love this series/franchise when there is obviously so much wrong with it. Stephanie Meyer, first of all, portrays an emotionally and mentally abusive relationship as “romantic” and, second of all, appropriated the entire Quileute culture without doing her research or supporting said indigenous people so she could claim “diversity”.

Yes, technically speaking this is a bad book, however... it is rare that I can find another book that captivated me as much as twilight did. As a quote from one of my favorite reviews, "It’s not good, but it’s enjoyable to a ridiculously juvenile corner of my mind". Stephenie Meyer does a wonderful job creating a setting and atmosphere that is so easy to get lost in. Bella is obviously an underdeveloped character, but this was clearly done on purpose so that all kinds of readers would be able to relate to her and picture themselves in her shoes. If you are looking for a book with well-developed characters and a good plot, do not read this book. But if you just want a cute (if problematic) romance that you can finish in a couple of days, look no further. You should also note that there is pretty obvious racism and misogyny throughout the book and heavily featured toxic relationships. Lastly, I think that twilight is the best book in the series and could be read alone, but I definitely think the others are worth reading if you are interested.
