Convicting and encouraging. Seeking to make our spiritual lives more closely resemble Christ can only draw us closer in relationship to Him.

Love the way Chan talks about church, reminding a Western world that it is, very simply, Christians being together in community that forms it, nothing to do with a building or denomination. He draws out the absurdity of the way we speak about church today: 'going to church' or many of the other recent bells and whistles - additions that are, at best, unnecessary, or at worst, deeply damaging and distracting. Chan makes a passionate plea to return to simpler forms of meeting. I particularly was challenged by his chapter on the sacredness of church. I wonder if he could have gone further with dismissing certain structures we currently hold dear, eg. he still seems to sit more on the side of upholding hierarchies than myself. I'm still not sure how much leadership I feel is proscribed in the Bible or necessary, but that may just be me!

Definitely challenging. I loved it. I also recommend watching Justin Khoe`s youtube toughts on the book chapter by chapter as well and the documentary (also on youtbue).

All of the discontentment I have had with the Western Church has been explained in this book. I read these letters with JOY and CONVICTION and the feeling that - for my family - something MUST change. For me and my husband we feel that we have been HEARD and that our issue with the "corporate church" model is completely reasonable. Jesus is good and his vision for his body is good and so we are in pursuit of representing him well even if it means releasing ourselves from "church" as we know it!

So much food for thought. I’m impressed with Francis Chan and his honest commitment to scripture even when that means confessing that he’s gotten it wrong in his own life many times. This book is a refreshing perspective on how church was meant to be, and is chock full of scripture. It’s humbly written and a worthwhile read for everyone seeking to grow in humility and in faithfulness to Christ’s commands.

Enjoyed reading book. There are some good points in comparing the church and meetings of believers as described in Acts and churches now especially 'mega churches'. The early church focused on the Word, prayer, breaking of bread and fellowship (supernatural love for another).
