Sweet and cute, but both Nate and Jack could be pretty frustrating, especially (ironically) when narrated by the other.
Jack is one of many characters who’s accused of being “too much, too gay” etc, and has to learn to accept himself, but also, does anyone talk THAT much? Sometimes his banter and dialogue pushes believability
Elliot, Mr and Mrs Nate, and even Jacks mom are sweet highlights of the book.
This was a great pool read, but had room for improvement

It was a good time from start to finish. It had me actually laughing out loud at several points. It was hard to predict where the story would take us next. I loved the characters, the whole traveling group was enjoyable and I liked that they went on their little side character arcs too. Jack and Nate had to fix their relationship and be friends again before they went further and we got some peeks at their old friendship that were adorable.
The ending was good, but it did leave me wanting to know more about what happened after they went back to school and I didn't like thatTariq got pretty much given a pass to justify his cheating because he is not as outwardly awful as Dylan is .
The boys healed but I was left still craving revenge.

Heartbreak Boys by Simon James Green is great! It’s an enemies-to-lovers, grumpy-sunshine, road trip, social media, forced proximity, second chance YA romance that is not at all the vapid trope soup you might expect from that barrage of keywords. Flamboyantly gay, Tigger-ish Jack and subdued, Eeyore-ish Nate slowly and sweetly find their way towards each other and, in the process, learn some things about living life for itself rather than for the ‘gram.
