Now THIS was more like it. A lovely small story of a woman struggling with her place in the world and in her world.

This was my first DNF of 2022 at halfway in. I liked her prose, but the meandering plot and uninteresting characters were just too dull for me. I don’t think this is a terrible book, but maybe it was just a case of wrong book at the wrong time.

It fell short in all the ways I wished for more details. All I can say is if you are gunna write a love story, write a love story. This was more of a lonely house wife who flirted with the idea of another life.

A beautifully written window in to Tokyo and modern motherhood, marriage, and life. I absolutely loved how this ended.

I related to so much of this, but a special callout for bringing Tokyo to life. I've spent < 6 weeks there, on business, over the years, and this book made me feel like I lived there forever.

If I'm being honest, this book doesn't have a terribly thrilling plot line. Nothing too exciting occurs. However, Emily Itami's writing was so beautiful that it still made this an enjoyable read. There were so many good lines in here. Some that made you pause and think, some that made you question a belief, etc. I've never been married and have no children, and yet I could find so much of her experience relatable. I can't wait for Itami to put out a new book
