I loved my unorthodox life, but this was just ok. First half is way better. Loved hearing about the orthodox lifestyle and Julia’s experiences. She reads as very conceited and second half is really annoying and boring.

DNF at about 70%. Insanely long book, redundant, needed to cut out some filler stories. So it started getting boring towards the end. Otherwise I really enjoyed learning about her life growing up in this strict religious culture.

I learned a lot about Jewish traditions and particularly orthodox practices that I was never aware of. She did a very thorough job of telling her story. I loved the Netflix show and her freedom story, so I was definitely nosy enough to read the book. It was fun and worthwhile, but there was lots of cringe-factor (I did not need to know the specific details of her orgasms, lol!) (There was plenty of self defense happening in her business drama, and it was almost suspicious, though inconsequential.) Overall a fun, gossipy read!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I want to start off that rating memoirs or biographies isn’t my thing I don’t like putting a rating on someone life or past. But this book truly truly is 5 stars of art and reflection. I didn’t know who Julia Hart was as a person solely as a business women. I knew she ran Elite & was conceived as being very tough and honest. I got to see her thru the eyes of her show My Unorthodox Life. I fell in love with her family & story. When she mentioned this book was being written I immediately pre ordered & even messaged her directly myself. Can you believe she replied? She genuinely asked me to let me know what I thought of her book. Well Julia, I like you I love you & admire you. Thank you for sharing your story & inspiring so many women/ people/ humans to change their life or leave whatever isn’t working for them or whomever isn’t working to support their happiness. Even if it means risking it all.

I picked this up after spending a little time in Orthodox areas of Brooklyn. While Haart feels like a rather unreliable narrator, I enjoyed the writing and I appreciated her willingness to share so much of her life.

The majority of this book was incredibly interesting and captivating. The last couple of chapters had some really weird weepy/dramatic vibes but honestly liked the rest of it so much that I’m still going with five stars.
