The healthcare system failed Naomi.

Not only was she a talented performer, but she was also so smart and knowledgeable about neuroscience. It was gut-wrenching to read about everything she went through and then read about her being so hopeful for the future at the end of the book, knowing how her life continued to play out and the constant battle she faced until she died by suicide in 2022. She was resilient until she simply couldn't fight anymore.

Knowing now that there was a suicide in every generation of her family and that she is now included in that hurts my heart. She says in the book that she experienced suicidal thoughts in 2013 and shot firearms in the woods, and the foreshadowing of that to the way she died in 2022 was deeply saddening.

I'm glad she had good friends, and I loved reading about their sisterhood. I also loved the Judd Family Powwow Rules she and her family came up with "to make [their] time together better."

May she rest in peace.

Please note that there are lots of medication references in this book. Remember to consult your doctor and don't take advice from a book about someone else's experiences.
