Interesting story
Manipulation, child abuse, and murder. What more can you want. Its interesting how someone can so completely overtake a persons emotional well being. The courtroom information was a little chewy but generally necessary.

If you knew nothing about this case and didn't know Ann Rule writes true crime novels, you would think this novel is the product of a creative and twisted author who enjoys throwing every type of surprise in existence at the reader. David Brown is a maniacal, brilliant, manipulative bastard who truly cannot see the irony between his actions and berating others for the same actions. He also cannot see that he flip flops his story and constantly contradicts himself; it's as if the future and the past and the outside world don't matter, nor do they exist, and the only thing that matters is what he is telling you at this moment. Although Cinnamon's, Pattie's, and Liberty's testimony was by no means harmful or ineffective, it was David Brown's interview that ultimately sealed his fate.
Ann Rule's crushingly detailed review of this case is both overwhelming and helpful, saturated and unbelievable, paralyzing and informative. 600 pages is a lot, but it is worth it. This book would have been good at 400 pages, but it is great with 600. This is one of her best demonstrations and how dedicated she is to telling these stories and how genuine her relationships are to all involved. I can't wait to start another one of her novels.

I'm on a real Ann Rule kick. This story wasn't as compelling as Small Sacrifices, but I was still intrigued throughout. I feel the same about the quality of writing - fine. I'm thinking I'm ready for The Stranger Beside Me next!
