1001 Dark Nights meets Hard Ink

I love both the 1001 Dark Nights books and the Hard Ink books, so this book was something I've been looking forward to since I found out about it. And to know the Raven Riders are going to get their own series just makes me all the happier.

If someone is not familiar with the Hard Ink series, this may not be the book to start with, only because it has so many spoilers. Otherwise it is a great look into what Laura Kaye can do as an author. I can only guess that it would be an excellent point to start for the Raven Riders, once their series gets up and running. I absolutely would recommend it for any Hard Ink fans though, getting a look at what Jess and Ike went through while they were away from the rest of the conflict in the Hard Ink series helps to move on to the Raven Riders. And I'm sure the Ravens that we meet and hear about in this book will make appearances in the new series. So if you're just wanting to check out Laura Kaye, but don't plan to read Hard Ink, or if you're already a fan, jump into this book with both feet!!

Thanks Wicked Reads for a copy to read and review.

Jessica and Ike have Ah-mazing chemistry in this short novella. After Jessica escaped the bad men by hiding in the crawl space, Ike decides to whisk Jessica away and keep her at his little cabin in the woods. There in close quarters they decide to hash out the feelings. This novella is a continuation in the hard ink series, and exceptionally erotic. Ike's bad ass biker attitude and Jessica's smart mouth make for a fun and flirty read. Loved this series! Four stars of entertainment.

I really wanted to like this one - the premise of the book seemed right up my alley however the hero really was an asshole on multiple occasions and I felt like he got off too easy in terms of making up for it but that's just my dislike for unnecessary pushing away for the sake fit.

This book had rough sex AND all of the ooey gooey declarations of love a girl could ask for (although it was unnecessarily cruel to tease me with the idea of ball gags and never follow through, Ms. Kaye... *side eye*). I DID think that the whole biker gang aspect to the story was a little soft, though.

Jessica Jakes is in a lick of trouble. And it’s only her luck that she ends up whisked away by the one man who she desperately wants, but can’t have. The petite, tattooed beauty has spent many years working alongside Ike and having his hands on her body inking her tattoos, but she’s never gone after him. The fear of losing him too great, she’s silently watched him from afar…until she’s caught in a bad situation, and the first person her fingers dial is him.

Ike Young has been struggling for awhile with his burgeoning attraction to Jessica. He’s purposely held back in fear of past traumas repeating themselves, and it’s been a daily struggle. When he’s forced to be around her, alone in a cabin, he’ll have to fight tooth and nail to open his eyes and look past his fears. Jessica and Ike have a passion that can’t be rivaled, and once it’s set off, they burst into flames.

Both Jessica and Ike struggled with the same inner demon, while also suffering with the intense desire they brought out in each other. A trip to a secluded cabin will force each of their hands, pushing them closer together, and bring out the healing that both of them needed. Novellas always come up short for me (as they obviously would) and I wish we could have delved much deeper into both characters, but it was a great introduction into the Raven Riders series, held intense heat (I mean, them two lit up the pages), and I can’t wait for more from Ms. Kaye.

Hard as Steel was a fantastic read. That, combined characters from my favourite Laura Kaye series Hard Ink with a new series Raven Riders. And with plenty of banter between Ike and Jess, some hot moments and glimpses into the ongoing quest by Nick and his SF teammates to clear their names. As well as the Raven Riders MC. This story had me hooked and was extremely hard to put down. And it's definitely worth reading. Especially if you're a fan of the author.

This was so awesome! Love, love, loved it! This was a full story that really packed a punch. It was full of emotion, intensity, and heat.

Ike and Jessica are wonderful characters and I loved getting to know them and about their pasts. They have fantastic chemistry together. There was so much sexual tension and animosity, it was great. I couldn't get enough. I love Ike and Jessica opening up and coming together and seeing those sweet and vulnerable moments between the two. Love their attraction and heat as well (oh the heat! Seriously, WOW!)!

This story overlaps with the final Hard Ink book, Hard To Let Go, which I thought was really cool. I loved getting those bits and pieces and reliving those moments. Extremely well written story, excellent development and build.

I thought I was excited for the new Raven Riders series before but after reading this and getting a peek into Ike's world and meeting some of the other Ravens, I am even more excited. Bring it on!

Fantastic read! Laura Kaye is a great story teller that really pulls you in. I pretty much inhaled this in one sitting. 5 hot stars!

This book was both an excellent ending to the Hard Ink series and start to the Raven Riders series. Jess and Ike had been co-workers and friends for years but there was always an attraction between them. After Jess’s apartment was broken into, an event which has ties to the Hard Ink series, Ike takes Jess to his house at the Raven Riders compound to keep her safe. There they explore moving their relationship from friends to more.

What I liked the most about this book was the depth Laura Kaye managed to bring to her characters in a short span of pages. One of my biggest problems with novellas is the characters often feel under-developed. However, in this book, both Ike and Jess had to overcome guilt from their pasts to sustain their relationship. Past events had scarred both of them but together, they were able to heal and move on with their lives. The caring and love the characters felt for each other was clear. In addition, the steaminess of this book was off the charts! The chemistry between Ike and Jess was undeniable and when they did become intimate… wow! *fans self* Overall, this was an excellent, well-developed novella. Now, I can’t wait for the next Laura Kaye book!
