One of the best books in the series so far - the author has settled comfortably into the world and the characters (as one would hope after four books) are well established. Gone are some of the more clunky dialogues and inconsistencies which significantly helps the flow of the story. I'm starting to feel very rewarded as a reader and am starting to get a bit nervous that the series is nearly over!

This is the fourth book in the Parasol Protectorate series and the fun still hasn't worn off. Incidentally, we finally have a Parasol Protectorate and their own oath. A pregnant Alexis is amusing to read because she is soulless and doesn't have any attachment really to the infant inconvenience. Eight months pregnant, very uncomfortable in her own skin, not sleeping and still carrying out an investigation into an assassination of the queen. Some misleading details as usual, danger to herself and the baby and an interesting mystery or two. Poor Biffy and Lord Akeldama, although one schemes more than the other. I loved how the baby was born and how it ended too. And the danger was perfect as well, I really enjoyed the new monster. Going to read the fifth an final one right away!
