I like Jennifer Hillier and her writing style, but this one wasn’t my favorite.

What worked: Opening scenes. Interesting character development. Compelling writing and some suspense.

What didn’t work:
-This story was very repetitive at times and could have used more edits.
-Back story was intriguing and added to the understanding of our main character, but didn’t help move the plot along enough for it to be integral.
-The book didn’t have thrills expected with a thriller, either. It felt more like a flawed domestic suspense novel. No real “twists” in my opinion, as they were all fairly obvious.

Overall, it was an enjoyable read but won’t go down as one of my favorite books, or thrillers, of 2022. Still really like Jennifer Hillier!

One of my favorites of this author. I really enjoy her story telling. This story is however written with accurate and significant references to sexual assault, child abuse, suicide, and child molestation so it is not for everyone.

The story told in different perspectives made it interesting. There were multiple crimes taking place and I had figured out early on in the book what was going to happen, although didn’t know exactly how it had gotten to that point. I did find the little details behind the plot twists interesting. Not my favorite or least favorite book but I don’t think I’d read it again. 3/5

I wish I had seen trigger warning before listening to this. I would’ve chosen to read it over listening to the audio so I could skip some parts. I don’t know if I’d call it a thriller because you can see the general details where the story is gonna go. The writing was good though, and I wanted to see how it ended. It’s more like listening to a really sad story about a young girl who gets some peace at the end.

My weekend was MADE when the approval email arrived for Things We Do In The Dark! I loved author Jennifer Hillier's last two books, Jar Of Hearts and Little Secrets, and couldn't wait to dive into this one.

And let's just say, this one is GOOD!! I love a dark mystery, different POVs and twists and turns that unravel layer by layer until the very end. I also like multifaceted characters and enough details to feel like you know them, and Hillier's books have it all. And in the thriller book world, it's truly a hard thing to find!

So, in short, add this book to your list, it's not to be missed! I already know it will be making waves this summer in the reading world. This one hits bookstore shelves on July 19th, 2022!
