WOW. I was enthralled from the beginning! Through courtroom scenes and POVs of all the characters involved, this murder mystery delves into all the tiny moments that lead up to an explosion that causes two deaths. The characters were complex and compelling and their stories were woven together brilliantly. This is going on the favorites shelf!

A fatal explosion in a hyperbaric chamber leads to a woman on trial for murdering her own child—but as shifting perspectives soon show, pretty much no one is telling the truth about what happened that night. Not only is Miracle Creek a super suspenseful courtroom drama, it also asks big questions, like what does it mean to be a good mother? I devoured this as quickly as my schedule would allow. Perfect for fans of Celeste Ng.

This book has the power to break through multiple systemic oppressions and still manage to strike through the heart unflinchingly.

Issues it tackled: Immigration and cultural issues, fragility of familial bonds esp. on wife - husband and parent - child, forced vulnerability, facing shameful and evil thoughts we simply can't do away with, H O N E S T Y and L I E S in multiple forms, and even the pitfalls of court drama like the guilt of enjoying every story spooling out backed from lie to truth to another lie. I FCKING LOVE THIS.

I've listened to the audiobook while doing my thesis, and I kid you not, MY EYES ARE SO EFFING TIRED FROM CRYING BC OF THIS GENIUS WORK OF ART (and from my thesis hehe) This book has a lot to unpack and I still have my thesis to tend to soooo yes, you'll just have to take my word that this is absolute, heart-achingly, beautiful. GDI, I'M STARTING THIS YEAR RIGHT BY READING AMAZING BOOKS BY ASIANS.

Also, hands down to the amazing audiobook narrator!!!

Absolutely wonderful mystery novel!! Fabulous to see all the pieces come together after they’ve all fallen apart at the hands of the various characters and their stories. It was intriguing from start to finish and even will be worthy of a reread!

First, I want to say that I love Angie Kim. It was so refreshing to see a thriller written that didn't care if you figured it out before the reveal. I marked down who did it correctly at the 25% mark because with the major players eliminated it really only left one person with the motive and for me it was just a matter of hoping and praying that it wasn't going to be a twist villain in the end AND IT WASNT. IVE NEVER FELT SO GOOD. BRO. LIKE. FINALLY. I LOVE YOU ANGIE.

Angie Kim, please give me the unedited version of the courtroom drama parts. I heard in your interview the editor had you take out so much of it to keep the flow of the story and I D E S P E R A T L Y want to know all of the courtroom stuff.

The story was believeable the entire time. The only parts I really raised an eyebrow at were the random evidence being added not through offical channels or found in discovery. It's very dramatic courtroom reveal. it felt genreally incorrect to me but Angie Kim is a lawyer.

DNFing at 90 pages.

Ok this one is my fault. I knew going into this one that I might struggle with the fact that a child was killed in this. I guess it just didn't occur to me that it would be a very graphic death. Well, it is. And I can't read about it. The book is actually well written and I'm sure it's fine, but I can't read about this poor kid even if he is fictional.

So yeah, huge trigger warning for the graphic death of a child.

Not rating this one.

I AM NOT A FAN OF MYSTERY NOVELS!!! This one was just so hyped up and it seemed different than the rest so I fell for it. Still struggled through it until I skimmed the last 10 pages. It was ehhh. Can't judge from a mystery perspective since it's no my genre but I don't suggest falling for it if you're in the same boat.
