I enjoyed the characters.
I enjoyed the mystery.
I enjoyed France.

What I didn’t enjoy was the french language mistakes. And the mistakes in the rest of the text, was jarring.

When Merle's husband, Harry, dies suddenly, he leaves her a ramshackle old house in a tiny French village, that she never knew existed. Merle travels to France to renovate the house with a view to selling it, but in doing so, she uncovers age-old secrets, which could put her, and her son, in danger.

Shunned by the villagers, but befriended by Pere Albert, a former priest, and Pascal, the roofer, Merle sets out to unravel the tangles in the web of this cozy mystery.

I love a good cozy mystery, and this one is no different. Although slow to build momentum, and at times confusing, as the pieces of the story start to fall into place, the pace picks up, and what you have is a wonderfully warm story about how families are bound by the past, and how unlikely friendships are formed in the most unexpected places.

In parts, the story is sad, reminiscent of the era's to which it refers, and I found my heart in my mouth once or twice, but for the most part, the story is light hearted and easy to follow.

I really enjoyed this book, and look forward to reading more of the series.

I really enjoyed this book! Mystery is not often a genre I enjoy but this was a very enjoyable read. My only crical point - is I had hoped there would be more about Dordogne - the region in France where the story primarily takes place.

Great book about strong women and a mystery

Loved it. Would read more by this author. Loved all the sister lawyers. Loved the French portion of the story. Exciting. Romantic. Mysterious. Sadness. and wine. It had it all.

I’m not sure where I saw this book set, but glad I purchased it.

I enjoyed the book and characters.
However I think I was over tired at the end and feel it was a jumbled ending. I had to reread some things. This could be due to me being tired though.

I have books 1-4, so book 2 will be going into my TBR pile.

I felt like the book didn't fit into any specific genre-it was a little bit historical, a little bit mystery, a little bit romance.

There was a lot of confusion especially towards the end on who did what when. It was difficult to keep all the threads of the story together. Other than that, the premise was good though there could have been some clarity on why the murder/murders were committed, what is so special about the wine bottle and who knew about them and so on. There was more focus on the relationship between Merle and Pascal rather than on the mystery thread of the story which took some of the fun away for me.
Read this for:-
1. France
2. Pastries and wine
3. Family skeletons
