This was a lovely gothic tale, but I feel like I have nothing special to say about it… I think part of the problem is that I've read Dracula too many times, so I couldn't help comparing the two of them all the time - which is really not fair, because this was written some 25 years before the Stoker novel. The other problem was that I struggled with the English at times, all those neverending sentences with tons of old adjectives kind of dragged the book for me :(

heart eyes and gothic chills. No vampire story can ever compete with the haunting nuances of carmilla

In the realm of literature, Carmilla stands tall, a testament to the power of gothic grandeur. It is a symphony of inky prose, a cascading cascade of mesmerizing sentences that whisper secrets and paint portraits of the macabre. To read Carmilla is to surrender oneself to a sublime pilgrimage, where the mundane world is eclipsed by an otherworldly intoxication.

I NEED MORE EXPLANATIONS

So, I found out that Dracula was based on a gothic lesbian novella... Of course, I had to read it.
