I didn't really like the opening segments of Jedi are bad we need to restrict the Jedi. I mean both sides kind of have their fair points. It's stuff that tends to come up in most super powered defenders things and I certainly don't have a good answer for it.

Anyway, I didn't really enjoy it.

I did enjoy the off world stuff. Getting off Coruscant and discovering things. Not just grinding through fighting some grisly menace, but getting out in the galaxy and exploring new things. That kind of stuff I'm all for.

Un roman sympa mais on ne parle pas assez des émotions des personnages c'est dommage.

With nothing to read after finishing multiple novels on a trip I picked up this novel despite it being far down the timeline from where I was and I was not dissapointed. Seeing a Ben Skywalker that was much older and wiser was very interesting and I enjoyed very page of this book.

There are times that the EU books, now "Legends" are really quite fantastic and expand on the world of the movies. Outcast, unfortunately, is not one of those books. At issue, I just don't buy the characters, they are too cliched and the action too sensationalized. It read more like fan fiction than anything that will really expand the Star Wars universe. Allston did great things with the Star Wars universe, his books in the X-Wing series are great. This just wasn't one of his best.

Star Wars needs some new writers.

Aaraon Allston and Troy Denning used to be the hot new thing in the Star Wars Universe. Now they spend their time searching through old Star Wars books for obscure references to things that that can be twisted into some kind of mangled idea of a plot, stick it to some half-baked story with chewing gum and then take turns writing nine book series about a bunch of characters acting uncharacteristically stupid so that the story can follow its prescribed plan. Once it's been stretched out really thin and everybody is fed up with all the characters losing every shred of intelligence and the ability to converse with each other in a natural or cohesive manner then Denning writes a big climax book and they do it again.

This is another first book of a series.

It makes me wonder why I keep reading Star Wars books.

Then I get to Karen Traviss or Matthew Stover and I remember that when they're good it's all worth it.

I really enjoyed this book for several reasons. There was still a sense of urgency and foreboding as is normal of the Star Wars universe, but it was also light-hearted. It was also nice to see the whole anti-Jedi feelings that had been hanging around for quite a long time finally coming to fruitation and causing long term issues for the Jedi.

Then there was the chance to see Luke and Ben together. Mara will always be my favorite character but due to the massive events of the previous novels we rarely got to see Luke and Ben together, their relationship is brilliant to read and very amusing at times. I loved the witty banter, and especially the scene where Ben starts singing an ewok song to Luke :D
