This one took me a second to finish,I think I was a tad bored because I've watched some of the show already. And honestly this is one of the times I like the show/movie better than the book. Not saying the book is bad but I feel like the show kept a lot from the book but added so much more on top of it. There's characters in the show that aren't in the book, and they just make it so much better. They feel much deeper in the show and put together. I did like hearing her thoughts and everything but now I can see how limiting it is, to see things just from her perspective. The romance is basically the same though. Also some of the terminology is a little too outdated. I know the show is as well but the book definitely is. So I was a tad uncomfortable at times. The show definitely updated from the books and I actually would recommend just watching the show. I'm not sure if I'll continue reading the books as it's a long series but maybe if I can't think of anything else to read I'll continue.

I have never hated a heroine more. As a fan of the show I’ve owned the full series of books for a few years now and finally planned to pick up and blitz through the series this year.

That will absolutely not be happening.

Sookie is vapid, self-centred, judgemental, slut-shaming, homophobic, fatphobic and the living embodiment of “I’m not like other girls”.

The sex scenes were uncomfortable, badly written, and some bordered on non-consensual where the author clearly imagined them as romantic.

The mystery was plotted sloppily. The writing was rushed and extremely derivative, reminding me of bad YA. This is absolutely the kind of book your extremely religious aunt would write and call “raunchy”.

If the plot intrigues you I implore you to just watch the show and skip this train wreck. If you read and enjoyed this I’m on my knees begging you to read good paranormal romance - it’s absolutely out there and this isn’t it.

Light/brainless but very problematic read. Would give it 1 star if I haven’t watched the show.
