Chilling and complex. In so few words, Kennedy spins novels out of paragraphs, perfectly capturing emotions that are difficult to put a finger on. A eulogy to women still very much alive, but lost to the poverty, in myriad forms, in their lives.

An interesting if bleak short-story collection. Not one for those looking to escape the misery of normal life as every story is a mirror to the woes of humanity. Might appeal to those wanting to read more Irish literature.
