When reading please acknowledge my grammar is not the best as I am dyslexic.

I could tell from the introduction that I was gonna connect with this book. I think the books descriptions made it seem less Christian heavy than it actually was, (or maybe that was just me), but it did become overwhelming at times, as I wanted something I could relate to spirituality not religiously. However I did connect with a lot of the book, especially chapter 11.

My rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Quotes: "Burdens of shame do not define you. Whereas these lies say you are unimportant, God says you are decidedly well-known and deeply loved. And you can be real because you are his. You are the light of the world—and shame has no place in the light."

"The goal is not to eradicate parts of your soul carrying anger, fear, sadness, envy, or shame, but to lead them with curiosity and compassion."

"In other words, when you care for your soul, you are reprogramming—or reforming—the contours of your internal life."

My thoughts: 9% - This is going to be for the car. It's like a deeper look at what Cloud and Townsend were discussing.
25% - This is really good. I never thought of a soul this way.
38% - 38% - Meaningful but boring.
50% - This one has to be done in doses.
71% -  Bible Study should have been on the cover of this book.
77% - I feel like Disney might sue them over this book.

So basically, if you've seen Inside Out, it is the same concept for parts of your soul. This book explores what the parts of your soul are trying to shield you from and how to befriend those parts, get to the root of the issue, and handle the situation in a healthy manner. For example, you might have an inner voice that shames and criticizes you all day. The reason for this shame might be that you feel guilty or you're trying to be perfect to make up for past failures. Once you find the source of this shame, you can unburden yourself and change your inner voice. This under 6-hours audiobook took me 8 days to get through. I didn't start it at night, and I listened at a higher speed, but I could only read a little at a time, and there was a lot to absorb and reflect on. It's a very good book. I think it would be better as a group study over several weeks.

Recommend to others?: Yes. This book would be an excellent choice for a Bible study or anyone who doesn't want to pay for counseling.

This one is relatable and helpful, wise and gentle, convicting and calming, and a great tool for all (especially geared toward Christians) who don’t want to be controlled by their emotions. It’s a helpful companion for anyone on a journey toward personal growth, healing, and freedom (and echoed many things my counselor and I have been working on in my therapy sessions). I found it honest and not overbearing, purposeful but not overly preachy, and challenging but not condescending.
