Being read to me by Uncle Neil himself. It's apparently a biography of his life, but told through the stories/memories of the cars he (and his family) owned. Would have preferred to listen to his primary biography, but this is available and i've learned things I didn't know about him already: had polio, dad was a writer, the family vacationed in FL every summer, etc.

I love Neil, just couldn't get into this that much. I don't care about cars really, I've always thought of them as a means to get me from A to B. So his love affair of cars is not felt by me and all the talk of them got distracting for me.

I didn’t enjoy this quite as much as Waging Heavy Peace but it was a thoroughly enjoyable read nonetheless! Neil Young has a way with words, whether it’s in novel or in song form, that man knows how to write beautifully and draw you into a story or song. I’m no car person but I especially enjoyed the little side stories about his cars and the gorgeous illustrations to show us what they looked like, I thought it was an excellent addition to the book. I also really loved learning more about Neil’s life, he really is a fascinating man!

The audio book is read by Neil Young which makes the experience feel quite personal. He tells the story of his childhood, his discovery of music, his early bands and influences, and his rise to stardom in simple language and using the cars the owned along the way as guide posts. Alas, the old models he favors are gas guzzlers. As a result he becomes passionate about looking for cleaner, sustainable sources of fuel and converts his old Lincoln Continental to electricity using biofuel for power, renamesit Linkvolt, and takes it on the road. A good read from a creative mind.
