Darius asks the King of Vampires, Wrath to help his half-breed (half-human/half-vampire)daughter through the transition. Wrath declines at first but after Darius is murdered by the Lessers he goes straight out to protect her. Even though Wrath has a mate, Marissa he has never felt love for a woman. Wrath soon finds himself having feelings for the half-human, Beth.

Beth, a reporter, is drawn to Warth like a moth to a flame but when she discovers who is his and why he first came to her her world is blown away. Can she accept she will be going through a transition and let Wrath help her.

2011 - I liked this novel. I did not really find Warth attractive and found him to be the Vampire version of Beast (from Beauty and the Beast). I wish there was more of Butch, the tortured homicide detective. I was more attracted to him and his romance with Marissa...and plus he a Red Sox fan ;)

2014 - When I first read this novel I liked it but was not wowed. Two years later, I decided to do a re-read so I could continue the beloved series and whoa I had a totally different reading experience. I savoured each word and scene and loved the romance of Beth and Wrath. While I still did not "fall in love" with Wrath I respected him a lot more this reading. Butch is still hands down my favourite and I cannot wait to see where the story goes with him...and Marissa. I also like Tohr and Wellsie and hope we get more on their romance in the future. Each brother has intrigue and I cannot wait to dig into the rest of the series.

This book is everything I remember it to be and mostly agree with my old review. The only thing I'd like to change is the complaint about too much sex - I absolutely did not mind it this time. I do still think that the romantic plot made no fucking sense - instalove is very present and I could not accept that bitch literally got married after knowing the dude for THREE days lol (yes, this is now my biggest issue, not them having sex the moment they saw each other, that is completely fine compared to marrige).

I was also pleasantly surprised with how much plot and setup for future books was actually here in the first book and I loved reading and remembering little things that I forgot but was reminded that will happen later. This was one of my least favorite books in the series and I think it will stay that way even upon a reread but I'm so excited to move on to the rest of the books and get to the more interesting characters (because let's be real, neither Wrath or Beth have that much of a personality and are definitely one of my least favorite couples). Oh, and I almost forgot, I don't hate Butch and I'm mostly not hating Marissa this time around, noone is more surprised than I am.

Review from 2015:

Since Black Dagger Brotherhood books make big part of my TBR, I decided it's time to do something about that. I have actually started this book three years ago and I read half of it, but though I really liked it, I never continued on. Until now. And I really enjoyed it, though I did have some minor problems with it. It was very interesting to read a vampire book now that vampires are not as popular as they were a few years ago, but I can tell you, I still like reading about them if the whole vampire thing is done well.

If you odd out the romance, this book still has a plot, which is very rare for vampire books. I love how vampires are portrayed in this book and how everything works out. Brotherhood is so cool and reading about them was very empowering. When it comes to the actual plot, I have mixed feelings about it. I did get into this book right away and I definitely had my attention, but I think that the first part of the book draged a bit, especially compared to the second half when a ton of stuff happened and everything was so fast-paced and exciting. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the beginning with Beth finding out about the entire vampire thing and falling for Wrath (though that hapened FAST!). It's just that it took me two days for the first half of the book, and then less than a day for the second half. My interest so obviously grew toward the end of the book, when the plot actually picks up. The ending itself was quite expected, though I did not expect for things to go so far, but I do like how it all wrapped up.

When it comes to our main character, Beth, I couldn't connect with her. I don't hate her, but she was quite annoying. And stupid at times. Like, who the fuck has sex with a complete stranger who looks like is going to kill her? And like that isn't enough, she goes after him and trusts him immediately. Quite stupid, don't you think?
I already said how much I love the Brotherhood. I like every single one of these Warriors, but when they were all together and their relationships with each other were brilliant. It's hard to say this, but Wrath is probably my least favourite in the Brotherhood. I couldn't make myself like him. I really tried. I couldn't. He was pretending to be a tough guy, but he was just too whiny and self-centered for me. I didn't buy it. Also, I don't really like his relationship with Beth. Too much insta-love and his change was just way too unrealistic.
As I said, I really like all the other guys, but I don't feel like I should talk about any of the other characters in this review, since each book is about another character so I'll talk about them when I actually get to know them better.

The writing.Occasionaly it was just too much. Through most of the book I really enjoyed it and it was fine, but there were just way too many sexual descriptions, to say the least. I don't mind reading about sex, but Beth and Wrath had sex way too many timed throughout this book. And even when they weren't having sex, at least one of them was thinking about having sex with the other person. It was just too much for my taste. It's hard to make me unconfortable while reading, I can really enjoy everything, but this was just... nope. The good thing is, eventually you get used to it so it didn't really bother me that much at the end. But still...

I have no idea whom to recommend this book. I don't feel like the right person to put an age range on this book, since I first read it when I was 13. But I guess if this is something you think you'd enjoy, if you're mature enough and you're okay with a lot of sex in books, it's a book for you. I really enjoyed it, it was very fun and entertaining and I will definitely be continuing with the series.

This took me forever to read. The love story between Beth and Wrath was soo good. However I found the sub plot about the villains boring and skimmed quite a bit.

A morally grey hero by the name of Wrath? Who is also a brooding and tortured vampire? Say less.

I was pretty intimidated to start this series, considering there’s like 30 books (give or take? Idk the actual number). For what this was, it was a lot of fun and I look forward to continuing. The dynamic between the Brothers is really interesting to me and I’m happy this series follows all of the characters (I think) so we get the chance to know them all. A very solid start.

ridiculously heterosexual, almost offensively so

plot is wacky, characters are unlikable, not even the sex scenes are that good 🫢 I guess this works if you're looking for something that'll require minimum brain power and can be read under two days, but for better substance I'd say you better read the 'Demonica' series 👍🏻

Could not finish. Made it halfway through. The "romance" made me sick.
