Will anyone believe this is actually my first time reading this book? You can tell why this title has had staying power, the first of the Caldecott winners to have that.

The art could have been better. I did like the story, but it could have been so much more with good art work. Story was okay.

A complete and utter classic of kids' literature; and it can't even be limited to kids! A touching and charming story about a mother duck just trying to get her little ducklings across busy Boston, the dangers they face, and the kindhearted people that do their best to help. Helped along by cute brown-sketch illustrations and a straightforward writing style that doesn't talk down to kids. I had my family read it to me over and over.

I love this book all the more because watching a line of ducklings cross the road is a common occurrence where I live. I particularly love the simple illustrations and the names of the ducklings are adorable (Ouack is the best).

This book is one of my favorites. It makes me believe the world is a good place where good people like Officer Michael exist. And, guess what? They still do. The soft drawings of the ducks, the way they look you in the eye, the sense of place and perspective as the Mallards fly over and waddle through Boston. There is something new to love every time you read this classic.

This is a cute story about a family of ducks settling in Boston. The pages are not colorful, but the pictures kept the attention of my daughter. However, I would have put this book in the 3+ category and not 0-3. The pictures are not colorful, and the book is a bit long for very young children.

Because of a news report, I just had to re-read this book. It's a story of family life, and life-saving help from friendly strangers, all from a duck's point of view. It's an iconic story for us Massholes. Just lovely.
