So I mostly chose to read this book for the title. I'm not a parent, but I do work with kids and have many interactions with parents similar to much of what was described here.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book: honest, self-depracating, down-to-earth, observational humor. Now I'm hooked on the blog, too.

In some ways, I feel like she and I live parallel lives, she in KC, me in STL. The distance is probably healthy-- she probably has surplus misfit midwestern libs friend-stalking her already.

Thought it would be funnier, didn't realize it would be all about parenting.

Def a mom book. With a lot of fbombs that really make reading worth it to me. A combination of short stories so made it really easy to keep your attention and binge in a day or two.

So this little ditty is gonna be a 3.5/5 from me! I really enjoyed how fun and quirky the author is. She definitely reminds me of myself. Way more laid back than some of the stuck up, keeping up with the Jones's moms around her.... not that I'm a mom or anything but if you couldn't tell or did know I'm pretty much always a goof ass that barely wears anything appropriate lol this book was like looking in a crystal ball to my future! It's nothing exciting or profound but it was super easy to read! Sometimes you need books like that!

Maybe I didn't take enough cues from the title, but I was definitely not this book's demographic. Jenn Mann's adventures in suburbia feature a collection of stories about self-centered, helicopter moms on the PTO in suburban Kansas. The author, though self deprecating and (at times) humorous, fails to recognize her own participation in these Mommy Wars. While Mann tries to be "above it all" while consistently referring to her poor housekeeping, crafting, and baking skills, the fact that she continually finds herself in situations where she is comparing herself to the local mombies show that she is just as much to blame as parents in her orbit.

In short, I have a hard time finding sympathy for someone who complains about how overbearing and coddling the parents around her are while she is heading up her childrens' school's PTO.

If nothing else, this book allowed me to further cement my position of being happily and permanently childfree. Nothing about these stories made parenting sound fun or rewarding. Now excuse me, I'm going to go and feed my cat that requires no organic food, dance classes, or math tutoring.

Punch

A great read for when you are a little frustrated with the nitty gritty bits of life. Life as a suburban mom subs even bearable if Jen Mann is around.

She made me want to punch the people mentioned in the book just as much as she did.
It was a fun read!

She's very funny and brash... after a while you just kind of want her to move away from the suburbs and find her happier place!
