Wellness by Nathan Hill

Wow - an epic and very long book, albeit about Jack & Elizabeth‘s marriage. It’s actually a series of stories about the times in which we live. Various chapters seem to cover different (a bit disconnected) thoughts - I learnt more than I needed to know about Facebook, psychology, placebos or wellness trackers for instance. These topics tie in to the story/backstories and make it an epic statement on life today. But perhaps less is more, it was a struggle to complete, but some important themes. But now off to delete myself from social media!

This was a solid 4.5 stars for me! Probably not everyone's cup of tea, but I thoroughly enjoyed the snarky observations and humor in this author's delivery. I loved the GenX angsty references and descriptions of the 90s scenes. I loved the facebook/internet conspiracy thread. I laughed but also thought several times "wow did he nail that" when Hill described some scenario. Sometimes I couldn't really see why he was off on a tangent, but ultimately I loved the way this was woven together. I really think this one needs to be taken in on Audio. I think some of the humor would be lost - the narration really added to the story and I don't think it would have come through as well on paper alone.

I love a good story on dysfunctional relationships. The story was wrapped up a bit quickly for my satisfaction, but I still loved it nonetheless.

This was a great read! Bonus points for 90s Wicker Park nostalgia, modern era ennui, a make believe suburb that sounds a lot like Evanston, and a level of research that no novel needs for but this former history student respects.

Hilarious, beautiful, painfully on the nose in places, really well written. Also possibly my new favorite narrator.

This book was on track to be 5 stars until it hit a big lull about 75% in. I understand the choice but it was a big detraction from the story for me and I skimmed most of the section. Otherwise great book would recommend.
