Nice quick read. The writing isn't the best, but it was a compelling story and the main character isn't annoying. The world feels like it needs more development, but I definitely enjoyed it. I fully intend to read the entire series and hope that the world is built further throughout the story.

Quick good fun

I blasted through this book rather quickly, and had a good time while doing so. The setting and the characters are all done decently while not spending too much focusing on them as to not slow down the pacing of the narrative. I left off book one wanting more.

Enjoyable. Characters and plot were solid. Would be interested in reading more.

The books in this series were, as far as I can tell, published as 100 page ebook novellas, then compiled into a paper volume of the first four. So they are a quick read, for sure.
There's a lot to like. A kick ass, beautiful female geek magical lead character. Diverse during case of (mostly attractive) nerds and geeks. Magical beings and trying to help the universe bend toward justice. Decent pacing, a fairly developed magical yet real world. In some ways, I am excited about this as the woman's answer to the misogynist Druid Chronicles.
I have some reservations, the biggest of which is a white woman's privilege in writing a Native main character. That seems problematic to me. I appreciate all kinds of diversity in my sci fi/fantasy novels, but I think it's overstepping to write from a Native perspective if you haven't lived it. I think the story itself will be good enough to carry the series, but I also think the author needs to be really careful about misrepresentation.

The Urban Fantasy genre is a mass of tropes and tics that you either love or you hate. If you hate it, stop reading now. If you love it, understand that I'm rating this book in the context of the genre. Compared to the greats of literature, this is a slight little trifle. In the genre, though, it's pretty decent. It's not pushing any boundaries, it's just telling a good story. So, I liked the characters, I liked the setting, and I liked the plot. I read this and the two following while I was on vacation in 2015, and I can't really remember much about it, so I can't really provide any details. Make of that what you will.

While I liked it, it felt as if someone had wrote a story about themselves and then added magic to it. But not in a fascinating way. Much too short to really get the depth needed to connect with the characters.
