I'm guessing this book is the one that started it all; in terms of narrators talking about alleyways covered in syringes and used johnnys... but it's actually pretty decent, sort of reads like a series of well sketched memories, describes a lifestyle, as a narrative is a little disjointed - but then that's life isn't it.

Το ενδιαφέρον συνίσταται στο ξεχωριστό για την εποχή τρόπο γραφής, αυθόρμητο, αληθινό και προσωπικό. Είναι πολύ αληθοφανές σαν να ακούς ένα εθισμένο να σου λέει την ζωή του. Μοιάζει κάπως σαν ημερολόγιο και ακολουθεί σε μεγάλο βαθμό την ζωή του συγγραφέα. Η καθημερινότητα και η απλότητα της γραφής κάποιες φορές φτάνει σε βαθμό να φαίνεται κάπως προχειρογραμμένο, με διάφορα κομμάτια να επαναλαμβάνονται. Ο πρωταγωνιστής είναι ίσως ο πιο πετυχημένος αντί ήρωας που έχω γνωρίσει στην μυθοπλασία καθώς ο ίδιος δεν είναι τόσο επικριτικός προς τα αρνητικά του γνωρίσματα του με αποτέλεσμα να αναλαμβάνει ο αναγνώστης τον ρόλο του επικριτή. Έτσι, αναπτύσσονται γνήσια αρνητικά συναισθήματα κατά του πρωταγωνιστή παρότι ακολουθούμε πιστά την σκοπιά του. Συνήθως το γεγονός ότι μπαίνουμε καλά στην θέση ενός αντί ήρωα έχει το αντίθετο αποτέλεσμα καθώς ο ίδιος αντιλαμβάνεται τα λάθη του και τα πληρώνει με κάποιον τρόπο και έτσι ο αναγνώστης τον συμπαθεί. Σε αυτήν την περίπτωση ο μισητός αντί ήρωας μάλλον οφείλεται περισσότερο στον πραγματικό κακό χαρακτήρα του συγγραφέα παρά σε κάποια συγγραφική επιτυχία. Κακομαθημένο πλουσιόπαιδο. Το βιβλίο θυμίζει Salinger. Έχει διαφορά τσιτάτα μέσα και γενικά είναι ευχάριστο και ενδιαφέρον ανάγνωσμα. Kick is seeing things from a special angle. Kick is momentary freedom from the claims of the aging cautious nagging frightened flesh.
