This was a rather nice collection of 4 short stories starring the incomparable Hercule Poirot. I liked that they all shared the common theme of things not being what they seemed. Of course, this and the trick ending are staples of mystery lit, but it always seemed to be particularly fundamental here. We had the murder that was not, the theft that was not, the suicide that was not, and the vacation that was not. :) I think it also helped that these were short stories, which prevented the twists from getting a little too fantastic.
