the continuing story of my new favorite YA character, cyd charisse. again, there's not a ton of action and we ramble along with cyd and her new female friends, watch to see what happens with shrimp, with nancy, with fernando & sugar pie. i want to know more about the supporting characters- sugar pie, ash, and sid in particular, though all of the characters are delighful, but maybe the lack of depth works with cyd's place in life- she's a little wrapped up herself. still, i'm deducting a star for that because i am really curious. maybe i'll find out more in cupcake. but- i love love love where cyd is when we leave this book. and i am beginning to be obsessed with rachel cohn.

This wasn't the best in the series, but it was still a good read. I enjoyed the first book much more, but this book had a sad ending, (no spoilers!) and kind of a sad all around feel to it. I would say that this book is still readable, though, but it wasn't as good as the other two.

Rachel Cohn's books (as well as a few other YA authors') are my version of beach reading - the characters are compelling and interesting, figuring themselves out and breaking some rules, they're right on the border between believable and crazy, and there's always a little romance. I have no idea why this one shows her with a surfboard, since she never surfs in the entire book. Anyway, 4 stars because it's fun, not because it's Great Literature. Lots of YA appeal but there is that equally YA sex, language and drug use - nothing in extreme but it's either there or strongly hinted at.
