This book had me giggling and kicking my feet. There are some awful characters (they're pirates so some of them are shit heads) but I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and the story! I had a great time with every page!

I'm getting lucky this year! This was a decent read, and I really enjoyed it.

Alosa is such a strong FMC, but not too overpowered, thankfully. She has legitimate limits, and that makes this more believable. She is a bit annoying at times with her inner monologue, but otherwise, I liked her

Riden was clearly going to be the love interest from the start, but I do like how slow they took it and how they absolutely hated each other. The banter was perfect, too! I love him so far, and I really want to know more about him

The crew were interesting, but I feel like I didn't get enough time with many other characters. Hopefully, in the next book, we will get more time with others

The story didn't really get to go far, though, and that is my one gripe with this book. It was quite a short read and could easily be read in one sitting, but most of this book was Alosa being captured. It only got to the interesting bit right at the end.

I will definitely be reading the next book, I'm very curious about what happens from here!

This story was just as amazing as I remember! The first time I read this book it was in one sitting while at a library with my friend. I was really into YA books at the time (still am, but not as much considering how the YA genre has changed in the last ten years) and this book ticks all the boxes of a great YA book. Alosa is such a fun character, one who knows what she wants and will do anything to get it. She is powerful, snarky, stubborn and so well written. As soon as you meet Alosa you would do anything to join her crew of women who sail across the sea looking for adventure. And the beauty of books is that as the reader you get to follow her on adventures and sail with her on her ship. So far this series is all I’ve read of the author, but I do own many of her other books strictly because of how incredible this book is. I would encourage anyone who misses what the YA genre used to be to pick up this book, you won’t regret it for a single moment.

I really enjoyed this YA piratical fantasy! There were a lot of fun twists throughout, though I predicted almost all of them. I liked the depth of the story and the details of Alosa’s character. The characters seemed older than they were (17 and 18?? Yeah, they didn’t act that age). I wish there was more romance!! I’m excited to read the next book and see what happens next.
