This was not great.

I mean, I bet that I would have had a totally different experienced if it was read to me, near a fireplace while the night settled in over the quite plains of a 19 century village.
But for these times? Huh. It is hard to stay through this read.

«...tenía la costumbre de llamar "extrañas" a todas las cosas que superaban su comprensión, y que vivía así entre una legión completa de "extrañezas".»

Resulta increíble como anterior a este relato, no me había dado cuenta de una obviedad: a veces, lo más probable está ante nuestros ojos y, simplemente, nosotros nos complicamos de sobremanera. Esta enseñanza, como no, se aplica a todos los ámbitos vitales.

What an odd short story!

It is structure like this: a Prefect comes and visits Dupin. Dupin asks the Prefect a serious of questions. The Prefect leaves and returns a month later. Dupin has solved the riddle and gives the letter to the Prefect. Then Dupin goes through a long explanation about presumption and logic to his roommate before describing how he attained the letter.

Nothing happens except these three conversations.

But the explanation of events and the tangents into rhetoric and philosophy is kind of fun. The answer to the puzzle, if you will.

A royal letter is stolen and although the police know who is responsible and the house in which it is hidden, even the most thorough searches finds nothing. It takes our master detective to solve the mystery. An odd little story that has given birth to whole book of philosophical articles. I didn’t expect to enjoy it but was actually stimulated by it. It’s Poe, and if you like Poe, you will probably like this.

Two people talk about a missing letter and where it could have been hidden in a hotel. In the rungs of a chair? Between wooden slats of a dresser. They also talk about math and other philosophical musings before going back to reveal the truth about the letter.

I'll admit that this was better written than Poe's earlier work, but still hard to get through considering what modern mystery writing has to offer nowadays.

I listened to this for my classes at uni and it was actually so cool! I have Poe's collection of stories and this made me want to read it so bad. I didn't know he was funny!!
