Upgrading this to five stars since I can't stop thinking about it.

Why on earth I have left Anna Akhmatova unread until now? This was challenging as poetry always is to me yet very powerful and utterly delightful. I am definitely going to make sure to read more of her poetry and also read a biography of her because her poetry seems very biographical and I felt I couldn't get all the references. Akhmatova had the power of making the best of two worlds; her poetry is both traditional and unconventional at the same time. Most of the poems left me speechless and I have a feeling that she is going to be one of my favourite poets alongside with Sylvia Plath.

3.5 stars. This isn’t a collection I’d recommend reading all in one go, but rather something to return to every so often and draw out the consumption of. The writings were undeniably good & I thought the translations were wonderful (considering this was my first experience with Akhmatova’s work), but it was easy to get weary of the repetitive subjects.
