You know I’m not usually a big non-fiction gal and I read this because of the musical mostly- but I really enjoyed it actually. Some of it dragged but on the whole he’s told a really engaging story while giving a really good introduction to the context, and also some nice little biographies of many of the people involved which was a nice touch. I liked it!

As an historical novel this book is chock-full of detail, the result of meticulous research. But the author still manages to weave an engaging story.
