It takes several attempts to get through this book. I am determined to keep trying just out of curiosity. It is banned in India and I'd like to know why. However, this time I failed miserably to get past the first few pages. I is quite repetitive, annoying even, and utterly disgusting. Maybe I'll return to it 10 years from now and try again.

You have to be in the mood for a big book, an epic, when you pick up this one. You will not be disappointed. Salman Rushdie mixes myth and reality and seems to have some very strong political opinions, but it is all fun and gives you a sense of this amazing continent. I very much enjoyed it and feel enriched for having read it.

This was one of the most long and difficult books I have read. I wasn’t able to enjoy it the way I wanted to. It was a bit difficult for me, probably because of my limited vocabulary. But the book is very interesting. The way Salman has explained the events is great. Will pick this book again sometime in the future.
