Fun adventure/military/colonization/cyberpunk/AI SF with enough hints toward an interesting backstory to keep me intrigued. As long as you're not looking for anything too deep or existential, you'll enjoy it quite a lot. Great protagonist, reminiscent of simpler, golden era heroes. Clear moral code, etc. Good clean fun.

I kind of think of this novel as existing as a book or film that characters in Iain Banks' Culture series might read/watch for some escapism on a lazy afternoon aboard a GSV or orbital.

I liked this, but it's certainly "first novel". The writing quality is decent, but the characters are a little flat and one dimensional. There's a bit of tech hand-wavyness, which I don't enjoy, but overall this was a decent time waster.

B-movie plot: guy with mutant super-power and limited intelligence with his sidekick AI-Predator Class Assault Vehicle go through the same dumb routine over and over for 300 pages in a universe of unrestrained capitalism and militaristic corporations. No character worth spending time with.
