The couple was moving a bit fast for me. I do love these types of books but already in the second meeting they are already making out get to know each other a little frist flirt a bit you know.
They knew their relationship was going to be complicated the first night they Micky started working. Diego and her set ground rolls for their complicated relationship. It wasn't even a day and they already messed up their relationship.

Well, that was all kinds of fun! I loved Mickey and Diego! This book made me smile and brought the happy. I especially love how Mickey ensured she was treated right.

Loved every second. I laughed, cried, cared about every character. I want a sequel to find out what going on with Ramón

4.5/5 stars!!

This was such a lovely read. Low stakes, light & fluffy and just all around feel good. We love partners that communicate! I'm slowly starting to realize I might like romance more than I thought. Def recommend this book if you're looking for a nice romance read with very mild tension and conflict.

I originally bought Mickey Chambers Shakes It Up last year when it first released, but like many books I purchase, it ended up falling by the wayside. However, I longed to come back to it after reading Charish Reid’s more recent release. And one thing that struck me is how she takes familiar tropes and subverts them in an intriguing way here, with this one putting spins on both the boss/employee and teacher/student dynamics that largely removes the “ick” factor that can come with them.
And this comes with both leads being older, and exploring how each of them can have positions of power and authority, while also navigating struggles that lead them to also being in subordinate positions for the other. Mickey resonated in particular, as while I don’t share her particular chronic condition, I felt a kinship with her as a fellow disabled woman with a passion for literature, in spite of its meager employment opportunities. But Diego is also easy to relate to, given his position as a struggling bar owner in the aftermath of losing his wife, hoping to better himself through going to college part-time.
I loved the push-and-pull between them, and how they struggled to keep their relationship professional, in spite of working together. Both of them had been through a lot, and I rooted for them throughout the book.
This was such a sweet, yet sexy read, and I’d recommend it to readers looking for a romance with older Black leads.
