Another fast read from Colleen Hoover. Not a bad book, just not my favorite compared to some of her others.

I have no idea what I just read. I love coho books, but this one was not it. Girl! No.... just no... I cringed so much, and I honestly was struggling to read it. I was definitely not okay with what they did and how they found a way to validate it at the end. The characters are buttholes and I will leave it at that.

Well I could’ve lived my life without reading that honestly.

Spoilers Below!

This is the first Colleen Hoover novel I managed to get my hands on from the library. Usually her books are checked out, and now I understand why. From the very first page, I was fully engrossed in this novel. I wanted to find out more about Sydney and Ridge, and I kept reading because the infatuation and love they shared was so engrossing.

There is only ONE reason I find myself compelled to give this book a 4 star review - I have Cystic Fibrosis (CF) which is the disease one of the major characters has in the book.

The fact that I have CF (and CFRD as well, actually), made me a bit critical of this plot detail. I wanted more than Hoover gave regarding the disease. The fact that I had to reread the section where her diagnosis is given about a dozen times, made me upset because I felt there were NO warning signs or indicators that could have led me to believe this character could have had the disease. There was no coughing fits, no treatments, no shortness of breath, and no stomach issues shown. There was a statistical mention about her shortened lifespan, and even that made me frustrated because I wanted Hoover to give the character more to hope for. There were also parts I loved that I felt she captured well about the disease. I loved that the character who has CF felt that she was going to fully live life (a feeling I have myself and my CF friends tend to share) because tomorrow is never promised. I also was grateful that she was the one to push away Ridge because I was worried Hoover was going to kill off the character before the novel ended. Instead, the character wanted to experience more than Ridge allowed her to, and I liked that idea.

Now, these are very personal issues I have with the book, and most readers wouldn't have these thoughts at all. I realize it's picky, but it did leave me a bit frustrated with the presentation of the disease. Otherwise, I was enthralled by the book. Completely enthralled. I love romances, and Sydney and Ridge's romance was beautiful and complicated from beginning to end.

I will certainly be picking up more of Hoover's books ASAP!

Save yourself. It’s ass just like all her other books. Glamorizing cheating is disgusting. I couldn’t even finish the book because of how bad it was and I usually finish books even if I don’t like them I try but with this one it was done for me. I took off every Colleen Hoover book I had in my TBR pile and I’m selling them. I cannot read another book by her ever again. Looking back I’ve read 4 books of her and honestly they all romanticize cheating and abusive behavior. Don’t get me wrong I do enjoy some good dark romances but her books are just something else.
