There are so many things buzzing through my head right now that I can't make sense of all of them, but let me say this--this is the most original, thought provoking, horrifying, fascinating book I have read in a long, long time. I'm going to be thinking about this one a lot. And it's not just because the ideas are provocative, which they are, but because the narrative, the characters, the plot work so well in the service of the ideas--the world feels so real that it makes all of the underlying ideas that much more powerful.

The plot was immensely interesting… for me, it was essentially “what if power dynamics between men and women were reversed… what if women held the “power” over mankind and more specifically men”. What unfolds is a narrative from several POVs on how the world is changing (in good and sometimes bad - with power comes deception and violence)… but nothing new. Women have forever faced what these men now face, and that to me was interesting to untangle. I did think the book was a bit tough to get into. Plus, I would have liked the characters to make blatant statements/comparisons about the oppression of women as to how it relates to what was happening to men in the book, but I get being subtle was probably the whole point. Super thought provoking!

Wowsers! I loved this book, could not put it down. Even skipped lunch in the workroom so I could hole up in my classroom and read more of it. Now, it's not perfect - I thought the frame narrative was a little bizarre and didn't add much, and I had trouble piecing some of that part together, but I thought that the concept was so interesting and the writing so well done that I'm willing to overlook that. Definitely one of my best of the past few years.

I have mixed feelings aout this book. On one hand, the concept is terrific but it never really transitions into an engrossing story.

In today's society where gender disparity is still prevalent, prominently in third-world countries, a world where women are dominant sounds as exciting and terrifying as it could be. I like reading dystopian fiction. And how almost always the future appears this bleak place that we all are headed towards. Hence, this complete 360 degree turn on a male-dominated society is frankly fascinating. Margaret Atwood herself endorsed this boo. And in a way this feels like a mirror version of The Handmaid's Tale.

But I still think it is a bit flawed. For one, it is not easy to warm up to all the characters. The reason why women suddenly develop this power is not very convincing. The end wasn't very satisfactory either. But for a first-time writer, it is a terrific book and I'd recommend it if you love sci-fi.

This book just wasn’t that interesting to me. I found myself bored a lot of it. I just didn’t overly enjoy it. It’s not a bad book but it’s not very good either, it’s mid.
