Nice story... I wouldn't re-read it but it's ok. I liked the ending, it was nice. I was sorry for Trevor and his choise of letting go that what he loved the most.

So much racism, homophobia, and BDSM without a safe word. I’m all for kink, but it’s irresponsible for authors to promote BDSM in an unhealthy and irresponsible way. It paints the community in a negative light and gives the impression that this is an acceptable way to engage in kink.

I hated the word choice in the smut. Just kept taking me out of the scene and that’s like… the majority of the book.

First in the Rough Riders erotica romance series about cowboys and rodeos. The series seems to revolve around the McKay family and their friends. The main couple focus here is on Colby McKay and Channing Kinkaid with peeks in at Cash Big Crow and Gemma Jansen and Trevor and Edgard.
My Take
It certainly started off differently! Then it got more interesting if a bit much on the submission end of sex.
Channing certainly enjoyed herself, and it was a treat to read about a woman who got into the spirit of things even as she fell in love. And it was a very different falling in love, with Colby being the vulnerable one, although Edgard wasn't having much luck when he learned of the problems on his ranch in Brazil.
Still Channing found herself and worked up the resilience to tell her parents where she intended to take her life instead of allowing them to dictate her path.
James certainly didn't sugarcoat the hardship of competing in rodeo events. Ooof, I understand the competitiveness of it, but I am sure glad I only had to read about the injuries!
In some ways, it's a long hard ride to Cheyenne as Colby and Channing have their ups and downs learning each other's expectations even as Channing discovers Edgard's hopes and dreams. And Colby endures more and more injuries. And I must confess I was not as impressed with the writing this time, although I guess you could say it fit the rough and tumble of rodeo life.
The Story
Colby is getting tired of the same ol' sex menages with Trevor and Edgard. Instead, he is rapidly becoming obsessed with Channing Kinkaid, but he sure ain't gonna be the one to tell her about Jared's wife.
But Channing does find out and finds herself at a loss for how to get to the next stop on the circuit until Cash Big Crow takes a hand and points Colby in the right direction. A direction that leads to Channing's deal with Colby and his buddies to hang with 'em and bed 'em until Cheyenne — after a quick try-out to ensure Channing knows what she's getting into.
The Characters
Colby McKay participates in bull and saddle bronc riding and tie-down roping; Edgard Mancuso and Trevor Glanzer are together for team roping as well as tie-down roping. And it's not the only team activity in which they engage.
Channing Kinkaid is a runaway rich girl. She's followed her parents' party line all her life and now that she's graduated and set to teach this coming fall...well, she wants a little fun this summer.
Gemma Jansen a recently widowed rancher plays a part in befriending Channing and setting us up for Rode Hard, Put Up Wet, 2, with Cash Big Crow who has a good heart for our lovers. Some nice and sweet background on Gemma's husband Steve Jansen.
Colby's family catches up with him in Cheyenne:
Carson is his dad and he wants Colby marrying a girl who'll stick around, a girl like Amy Jo Foster. Carolyn is his mother. Cord is recently divorced and has custody of his son Ky. Keely is their little sister, and she does NOT like Amy Jo with her goody-goody ways.
The Cover and Title
The cover makes me think of vintage photographs with its sepia tone. Cory is walking toward us in his jeans and chaps, white shirt and buttoned up leather vest with his right arm swinging at his side, gloved and taped. In the background, Channing is standing in profile but looking out at us over her shoulder with a cocky stance to her whole body in her tight, tight jeans and tight cropped top.
The title is accurate enough as Colby McKay has got a Long Hard Ride in this series of rodeos.
My Take

Yee Haw- cowboy porn done right. I am not an erotica fan usually. This book was sexy fun without being 'in your face crude' The characters had personalities that were believable and there was even a plot. It was an enjoyable walk on the rodeo side.

Channing est en froid avec sa famille, elle a envie de s'émanciper et pour cela, quoi de mieux que de traîner dans l'entourage des sportifs du rodéo ? Dans cet univers, les femmes sont des "puck bunnies", des groupies interchangeables qui rêvent toutes plus ou moins de finir par mettre le grappin sur un de ces hommes et de finir avec la bague au doigt. Charmant, n'est-ce pas ? Au début du livre, Channing est joujou "puck bunny" de Jared, un Australien qui lui cache des choses essentielles, jusqu'à ce qu'elle découvre tout et change de cowboy.
Pour Channing l'émancipation se joue au niveau des "sexscapes" dont elle rêve et qu'elle compte bien mettre en pratique. C'est ainsi qu'elle se retrouve à suivre sur les routes Colby, Trevor & Edgar. Il n'est pas inhabituel pour ces trois hommes de se partager une femme, et Channing ne fera pas exception à la règle. Un lien plus privilégié se tisse entre Colby et elle, mais l'héroine ne se limite pas à un seul partenaire dans ce livre (comprenez, en dehors des scènes de trio, elle ne fait pas mumuse qu'avec Colby). Channing a envie d'explorer toutes les facettes de la sexualité, elle veut aller au bout de ses fantasmes et compter bien s'offrir une chevauchée des plus sauvages.
On est bien dans une romance érotique teintée de BDSM. A défaut de saucissonner un taureau avec des cordes dans une épreuve de rodéo, il y a aussi l'option Channing, "victime" tout à fait consentante de ce genre de pratiques. Les scènes olé olé sont très graphiques, les descriptions et les dialogues sont crues, mais c'est tellement dans la surenchère que ça m'a fait rire, mais rire ! Pour les curieuses, il y a bel et bien une scène purement M/M, mais elle est courte, et il y a quelques scènes de trio, mais moins qu'on ne pourrait le croire à la lecture du résumé.
Voilà typiquement le genre de livre que j'ai déjà oublié, même s'il est vrai que je l'ai lu en diagonale. Je suis assez moqueuse, il est vrai, mais ce genre de livre n'est définitivement pour moi. Colby n'est pour moi qu'un plouc, un dominateur de pacotille, et à la rigueur je suis plus "touchée" par la relation qui se profile entre Cash et Gemma, les héros du tome 2, ou encore par Edgar et Trevor.
Ce livre est purement et simplement ce que les Américains appellent du smut, de l'erotica, même si je me dois de concéder qu'il y a un peu de romance et un HEA à la clé.
Pour autant, je ne doute pas qu'il puisse plaire, certaines lectrices seront peut être charmées, dépaysées par cet univers du rodéo, par ces taureaux furieux, ces cowboys à la gâchette facile, mais je n'ai pour ma part pas été emportée, si ce n'est par le fou rire.
