This was an interesting retelling of the Greek story of Cupid and Psyche. It started off harsh, dark, and not what I expected. I was intrigued from the beginning of the story. (I've never heard the original Greek story) There were sad parts, and I felt bad for the oldest sister at first. This book took me on an emotional roller-coaster. I see the Christian undertones, and it focused on exploring the idea of love (it showed what false love is, which is possessiveness, and what true love is, which is selflessness). Overall, it was an interesting take on the myth. Also I liked the narrator for the audiobook.Â

Iâm not sure if I wouldâve liked this book more if I hadn't already known the story of Psyche and Eros, because I can be more forgiving of a sister seeking to destroy Psycheâs happiness out of envy rather than one who ruined it due to ego. One, who weaponized the love Psyche had for her so that she could get what she wanted, because she claimed to know best. It was also frustrating seeing Orual take no responsibility for all the decisions and actions she made, instead placing blame on the gods and a lack of agency. She was incapable of looking beyond herself at all. âThereâs one part love in your heart, and five parts anger, and seven parts pride.âÂ
But the funniest part of the book was when Psyche pulled a Tai Fraiser and basically said âwhy am I even listening to you. youâre a virgin who canât driveâ to her sister.Â
