Selkie Heart is well-written, and I was enjoying what the Amazon page said was a 35-page short story. Several paragraphs in, I had already decided to read more books by Sam Asher. Then, on the final page, we're left with the newly-introduced bad guy? government operative? investigative reporter? long-lost alpha? heading out to find the protagonist (cue sinister music). I don't read excerpts and I despise foreshadowing, so I'm rating this enjoyable, but deceptive, read one star.
