It's nice to have a little taste of the Prefect after so many years. This (very) short story shows another part of the dark side of civilization in the Glitter Band. I certainly wished this was longer, but I guess I'll just have to wait a couple more weeks for Elysium Fire.

A short story set between the first and second Dreyfus novels. Should be read in chronological order, it gives a glimpse into something that was left open in [b:The Prefect|2294766|The Prefect (Prefect Dreyfus Emergency, #1)|Alastair Reynolds|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1401290523l/2294766._SX50_.jpg|3102565]. The story itself is pretty grim.

A quick little story that follows up on a thread from The Prefect. I read it in preparation for Elysium Fire, since it's been a couple years since I read The Prefect.
