Very moving. Can't get it out of my mind now that I've finished it.

I was loving this book. And I do really like it, but I was not a fan of the end. I suppose the ending I wanted would have been too cliche and cheesy (and then I probably wouldn't have liked it) but the ending still rubbed me the wrong way. Still, a great, fascinating and quick read. I read it in one afternoon/evening without neglecting the kids too much.

I admit that I was leery to read this book at first, thinking it would be too sad or depressing. Well, it turns out it definitely was - but it also told a fascinating fictional story about a historical event that I previously knew nothing about. The author artfully tells two stories - one from 1942 and one from 2002 - in an alternating manner, until the point that the two stories actually come together into one. The characters were interesting, the subject matter was sad and shameful, yet it was dealt with gracefully and graciously. The ending of the book was nicely thought out, which I always appreciate, and I really loved the short chapters that made me want to keep turning the page to the next one. I highly recommend this one.

Wow. I couldn't put this book down. It was so engrossing, I stayed up half the night so I could finish it. Heartbreaking, engrossing, utterly real and haunting.

I was intrigued every page of this book. I always wanted to know what happened and when Sarah's story was first introduced I wanted to know what happened to her all those years ago.

The story was predictable and there was no depth to any of the characters. The book would have been much more interesting if more of it was told from Sarah's point of view. I'm not sure why the author cut off Sarah's POV halfway through the book. Didn't like the writing style. The only saving grace was that I learned about another part of WWII I hadn't known about before.
