It’s such a strange feeling to love and hate the same book with equal intensity. This one had me in knots from start to finish. The plot is twisted and dark, in ways that feel deeply, painfully human. It begins with a raw, emotional punch—I cried for Kel and Lottie, their pain was so visceral. But by the midpoint, I was just done. Like, I genuinely wanted it to end for all the characters. What was Charlie even thinking trying to “fix” Tate? Both of them were drowning in unresolved mommy and daddy issues, and it felt like no one was getting anywhere.

The author fumbled badly when it came to romanticizing suicide and trying to justify trauma-based relationships. It felt forced, like they were reaching for something profound and missed the mark completely. The only decent arc? Terry, maybe. Leah and Jonnah were tolerable, but the rest? Absolute trash.

And yet, for all the frustration, I couldn’t help but admire Kel for somehow pulling off a half-cooked manuscript and carrying the entire book on his back. It was chaotic, messy, and at times deeply frustrating—but maybe that’s why I’m still thinking about it. Love it, hate it, I guess it’s just one of those books that leaves a mark, whether you wanted it to or not.

This book messes me up so much more than I thought it would. It’s a book about grief and coming to terms with survivors guilt and mending relationships and I just was not expecting it tbh. I was expecting a silly little romance novel. But it really f*cked me up at times.
