I did not like or dislike this book. I think that it was a bit too far outside of my comfort zone. I appreciated the end “message” of the book and honestly felt confused up until that point. Worth a read if you like unconventional plots.

This was a really intriguing read.
I did not see the ending coming.

My murder is an entertaining combo of mystery, sci-fi, and thriller. Set in a (not so) futuristic, VR heavy world, our main character is murdered by a serial killer, his last victim. She and his other victims are cloned and brought back to life. But was she actually killed by the same man? Things aren't lining up and she digs for answers to find out the truth of what happened to her other self.

I enjoyed this book, it was a quick read that I didn't want to put down, but it certainly didn't wow me. I found it repetitive at times and then the end kind of had me rolling my eyes a bit. It all wrapped up a bit too happily ever after for me and that's where the rating took a dip. I think parts of this book were very original, and those leaned into the futuristic sci-fi elements a bit more. For example: Lou's job as a professional holder, where people pay to go into a VR room and just have their hand held, or be hugged. I thought that was really beautiful actually. The killer's punishment for killing 5 women was not death, but 40 years placed into a coma like state to be taught empathy through various stages of exposure to different stimuli. Intriguing...

If you want an entertaining  psychological thriller read with a slight twist, that's on the murdery side, without being scary or tense at all, where everyone gets their happy ending, this is your book

Made me sick to my stomach but I’m not sure if that was from the dread or the relief. Reading this during the week of Gisele Pelicot’s story getting media attention (& everything else that has happened to women this week - Rebecca Cheptegei, Dr. Moumita Debnath, etc etc) made it especially challenging.

This is a thriller written by a woman, for women. Katie Williams captures the fear & hyper-vigilance around motherhood, femicide, & misogyny, & the parasocial & invasive nature of true crime coverage & delivers descriptions & one-liners that make me feel seen & scared in the same breath.

I’m left with questions - not about the book but about myself & the world around me - at the end of My Murder.

one of the more unique books i’ve read! the pacing of this one really clicked for me and i felt like i was flying through it. some of the sci-fi world-building was a little bit hard to follow/not fleshed out as much as i’d like, but i thought the focus on hyperrealistic VR spaces was cool. not the ending i was expecting, and i think i suspected a few elements of the twists, but i was still surprised by the ending! this ended up being kind of sad and makes you think more about motherhood and peripartum mental health. a pretty great and different read overall!
