This book's depiction of repressed homosexuality is brilliant, especially for the time, and the (by definition) SA of Brick at the end is absolutely heartbreaking. This play feels entirely modern, as it wrestles with issues that still come up in many peoples lives, even including mine. The play is fast-paced, and hits every plot point and important emotional moment with perfect, calculated precision. All in all, this is one of the greatest plays ever written, and an essential read for those interested in the LGBT in the deep south in the early 1900s, as well as plays about toxic relationships.
Graphic: Alcoholism, Toxic relationship, and Alcohol
Moderate: Cancer, Chronic illness, Cursing, Emotional abuse, Rape, Sexual assault, Sexual content, and Outing
Minor: Body shaming, Racism, and Pregnancy
