It was great to read this so close to My Name is Lucy Barton. They tie each other together, and make each other so much stronger. This was simply brilliant, compelling narrative capturing many points of view. How we see ourselves and how we're linked together.
Many of the parent/child relationships were left unhappy or unresolved, and it was meaningful for me to read fiction where that's true. I have a lot of unresolved relationships with my children, and usually books leave me wondering why this character who was objectively a worse parent than I was retained a loving relationship while I cannot.

I think it is almost safe to say that I am becoming a big fan of Elizabeth Strout.
I really enjoy her writing style, simple, cosy, warm. Normal people going through normal things, feeling familiar feelings.
This book is less about Lucy Barton l, but is strongly connected to her through the stories of people who know her. It explores love, childhood trauma, age, and the pursuit of happiness, how physical appearance affects the way people see you, class... All packed in a lovely little book.
I'm looking forward to the third book of the series.
