I wanted to read a Zane book, since never had before. Ugh I probably won't read another. The dialogue was forced, and the plot disconnected. This book was weirdly full of slut shaming. I guess she has an audience though bc the average review is 4 stars.

This is one of the messiest books I have ever read!!! Also the most interesting audiobook lmaoo!!!With everything Zoe’s been through makes sense bc victims of SA can manifest different safety nets-hyper-sexual, low sex drive, ptsd, repression, etc!!! Although it wasn’t classified as such, Jason did experience sexual assault as well!! Witnessing adults do such things is trauma and wish it was stated as such!! Now the last chapters of the story did get a lil wonky because the plot went left!!! Like what in the world!!!! Overall, its a solid 3 stars imo!!!!

Low rating because the main character took no accountability for her actions.

I really wanted to like this book. It was super unrealistic and towards the end it was all over the place. I would like to read other books by this author because I've heard great things, I feel like I got the fluke book....

It took me a long time to read this book. I even avoided the movie because I hate seeing the movie first. (The novel always has more details and I like to see which details are being left out as I am watching the movie)
As much as I love Zane's novels, I dislike how much slang she uses in an effort to "connect" with her African American audience. I can understand the Zoe using them when referring to her history with Jason, since it conveys the time period in which she is remembering. But for Zoe as an adult, I think it should have been minimized. Slang terms become outdated. But then again, it's not like this is going to be a part of an empirical study of literature centuries from now.
Spoiler The overreactions to Zoe being hypnotized were a little dramatic. I assume it was only to convey each characters emotions at the time, since it was narrated in first person by Zoe.
Overall, I liked it.

Good. Audiobook only. I probably won’t like it as a book. Not too graphic
