Although I enjoy the film more, I won’t say I regret reading this. At points I found the descriptions intense, but in other moments the attentive focus melded well into what McEwan was trying to achieve. I will say a quality of historical is that it’s highly descriptive, therefore I can get quite lost/unmotivated since I’m not a  history buff. But this is quite tame

Only critique would be it's lack of humour or light-heartedness. Similar to Kazuo in that respect, but still a very easy read thanks to it's perfectly and precisely constructed prose.

The book was okay, it was well-written but I didn’t like it that much. I thought it was boring most of the time, with too many unnecessary details. Also I hate the trope miscommunication and it was basically just that so yeah… oh and I thought the main character was hella annoying, which wasn’t helping.
