Beautifully drawn, hilarious and spectacularly entertaining first volume. Surprisingly heart-warming and emotional. I also loved the fact that despite her superpowers, Anya is still very much a small child. As much as this story is over the top, there are unexpected glimpses of almost raw realism.

It's cute. It's funny; I laughed out loud multiple times. It's also very cartoony; the worldbuilding is barely sketched in, most of the characters are clearly defined types, and the situations are highly exaggerated. There are a lot of scenes where one of the leads inadvertently does something extremely suspicious, but manages to smooth things over with a flimsy excuse. (It's frankly a miracle that neither Loid nor Yor had sussed the other's secret out by the end of their first date, let alone by the end of the volume, and it continues to be a miracle that both are still regarded as normal and unsuspicious by the people around them.)
What won me over is that the emotional moments, when they happen, land well. Wacky shenanigans aside, it's a story about three people who are each, in their own ways, isolated from the world and yearning for a human connection that they've found in each other, and by the end of the volume I cared enough about them to want to see what happened next. (I don't know if I'm going to stick out the whole series, though; I suspect my tolerance for the wacky shenanigans may have its limits.)

Very cute! I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series. It's a pleasant mix of slice of life and action adventure, and I love Anya's childlike awe in her perspective of the events.

despite having already seen the anime prior to reading this, vol. 1 of spy x family is hilarious nevertheless. i rly applaud endo for crafting such a well-balanced story of high stakes action, comedy and fantastic characters, a rollicking ride thats simply *chef's kiss*.

the art's great as well, w/ rly good paneling and composition (most of the time) that complement the action and maximize impact on the reader. the book's seemingly effortless blend of comedy, action and emotional moments are a rare find tbh, and im so happy for its success!

5 out of 5 ☆’s.

“A spy never relies upon anyone but himself. And a spy never plans for any outcome but the worst. That said, maybe it wouldn’t hurt to feel just a tiny bit…”

GOSH — WHY DIDN’T I START THIS SERIES SOONER?!

”Spy Family” has been on my radar for quite some time now & I’m currently kicking myself for putting it off for as long as I did…

I loved EVERYTHING about this volume! The plot was intriguing and understandable, the characters all have intriguing personalities and characteristics, the relationships between the characters are already starting to develop…it has it all! :)

I am so excited to read the next volume and see these characters continue to grow on me! ♡
