Feels really autobiographical to me
Very sad book
I had hoped Charlie would get better
It did seem like he desperately wanted to get better just like everyone in his family seem to want him to be

I don’t see the relevance of Leah’s MFA group but I guess that’s just to show she had some sort of life

Also the part about her mother felt flat
Unless it’s to somehow point to a factor in her brokenness
That trace and meet part too seemed like some closure was planned for but that too did not seem tied to any relevant end for me

Her family; I don’t know what exactly they’re ; supportive or otherwise; it seems undecided

I thought I’d like this a lot more than I did but I can’t put my finger on why 🤔

This was bleak. If it hadn’t been a book club book, I wouldn’t have finished it. While I found the exploration of abuse well done, I never understood what the “spark” that drew Leah and Charlie together was

Such a sad story! I thought the behaviors of the protagonists were very realistic, especially the love bombing texts an  how easy it was to creep back into old bad behaviors, it felt very realistic. That being said, I did think the relationship between them felt more surface level - it was a lot of "I loved running errands with Charlie, I loved listening to music with Charlie, etc." but very little examples of the actual growth in their relationship. I also thought it w uld have been cool to see more inserts of her writing (the entire novel she's trying to get this one short story published, but we never get to see any of it!). Then ending also didn't have a ton of reflection, I think it would have packed more of a punch if it had been more introspective, loved the last page though.
